‘Le sujet naît de L’objet.
[The subject arises from the object].’
- Michel Serres
(As stated in Bill Brown, ‘Thing Theory’, Critical Inquiry, Vol. 28, No. 1, Things. (Autumn, 2001), pp. 1-22. p.1.)
What is an object?
What do you mean by ‘thing’?
Who left it here?
What would happen to it?
Where does it go?
Is this apple the same as that apple?
Can a bird be called a bird if it can’t fly?
If I break chalk in half, am I getting new chalk, or do I lose the one?
This project wishes to trace the abandonment of objects away from their functional use or detour of original purpose and convention for answering the above questions.
